Description

Get fit during the school summer holidays and learn in the gym, with this 4-week course for 14-16 year olds.

Each week will have a different theme including an educational segment, practical time and then an activity.

Week 1: Confidence in the gym

We will be looking at gym etiquette and safety, learning the basic movements and reducing any concerns you have in the gym. We will go over benefits of exercise and the importance of technique.

For the first week, you will be introduced to fundamental movements (bodyweight and light weights) focusing on the squat, hinge, push, pull and core movements. This would lead into a circuit of the exercises, and a small Q+A session.

Week 2: Foundations of strength training

In week 2 we will focus on the foundations of strength training, learning basic weight training technique, as well as sets, reps and rest.

You will learn which muscles the exercises work so that you know the impact of your training. As an activity, you will work in partners to watch each other’s form and provide support and coaching cues.

Week 3: Creating your own routines

Week 3 will focus on building a workout, and you will learn how to structure a simple workout built on the principles we have gone through to build some independence in the gym.

This will be focused on making a balanced full body strength session, and a focus on warm ups and cool downs too. They will spend some time designing your own workout, and try out the mini plan here once we have corrected and improved them together as a group.

Week 4: Bringing it all together..

The final week will focus on incorporating what you have learnt into a comprehensive training session. We will also look at how to incorporate this into your lifestyle, understanding the broader benefits of fitness, and goal-setting for you to take away.

We will also cover different formats of training such as functional training and cardio and how to do this safely.

By the end of the course you will:

  1. Feel confident entering any gym.
  2. Know how to do key movement safety.
  3. Understand the benefits of strength training.
  4. Be able to complete a simple workout independently.

  • This course will start on Monday 3rd August 2026 and end on Monday 24th August 2026.
  • It will start at 2pm and finish at approximately 3pm.
